Standards of beauty are different all over the world. In some countries, where money is tighter than Christina Aguilera’s control top pantyhose obese people are deemed beautiful because it means they have enough money to eat. In India, dark skin is so prevalent that lightened skin and eyes are considered more beautiful. People even go so far as to bleach their skin in the name of beauty. In America, we idolize anorexia and eating disorders, holding people to an almost unachievable standard of beauty.
I encourage you to embrace the standard of beauty no matter what culture you find yourself immersed in. If you visit India, throw on a bright, colorful sari, try on some facial jewelry, and get a henna tattoo. If you find yourself in Japan, learn the customs of their tea ceremonies, chalk up your face, and throw on a kimono for a night out on the town. Immersing yourself in the cultures and standards of beauty is a great way to really see the world, and in the long run, will only add to and expand your own definition of beauty.
