Travel Spotting: The Crimson Lounge in Chicago

Written by Gary

The most notable thing about Chicago nightlife is that it seems to fall into two extremes–bars are either really laid back and quaint, or extremely upscale and posh. The Crimson Lounge in the lower level of the Hotel Sax on Dearborn Street gracefully falls into the latter category. The space itself is tastefully designed with an expensive New Orleans vibe consisting of red velvet tufted furniture, antique lanterns, dark polished wood and crystal glassware. In the afternoon it is like walking through a beautiful old museum. After dark, the fashion crowd comes out and dances the night away to electronic music lending the place an atmosphere reminiscent of 1920s glamour and decadence. Overall The Crimson Lounge is a unique blend of luxurious style and hip people, and very much in accord with the urban sophistication of the Hotel Sax.
