WTF Spotting: Protection Socks

Written by Elizabeth Mitchell

For those days when you just don’t feel like wearing shoes.

Ever thought to yourself, “Man, I really wish I didn’t have to wear any shoes today?” Well apparently, it’s a pretty common predicament for the Swiss people as well. So common in fact that The Swiss Barefoot Company actually created a sock that’s meant to be worn in place of shoes. Um, WTF?  Yep, you heard right. The Protection Sock ($78.00) is made of 8% spandex, 10% cotton, 32% polyester and, of course, 50% kevlar. The bottoms have also been reinforced with a PVC laminate to help make them cut-resistant. But these babies aren’t cut proof, so don’t go stomping around in dark alleyways or gallivanting through crack dens (just to be safe). We wonder if the restaurant signs that state, “No shoes, no shirt, no service,” apply to The Protection Sock? Technically they should still let you eat since the socks are basically like shoes, right?

**WARNING** The Protection sock requires some serious practice to get used to walking in, maybe even more so than your high heels, so beware ladies and gents.
