Check out these simple remedies for healthier fingernails…

Fingernails are curious things. They’re usually fairly tough and durable, but if you don’t take care of your body and your health, they can start to have problems. You may see signs of discoloration, or you will notice that they become brittle and easily broken.

Don’t let your nails grow brittle! Brittle nails are a sign of menopause, anemia, excessive contact with hard surfaces, lack of moisture, or infection. Here are a few simple solutions for brittle nails:

  1. Vitamin E and tea tree oil — Tea tree oil is amazing at killing off bacteria and fungi–perfect if you have an infection. Mix a few drops of Vitamin E in with diluted tea tree oil (no stronger than 5%), and apply the mixture to your fingernails. It will do wonders to help restore them to full health.
  2. Sea salt and warm water –– Pour a bit of sea salt into a cup or bowl of warm water, and soak your nails in them for 15 minutes at a time. You can add lemon oil to the water to increase the healing benefits. Do this a few times a week to see improvements in your nail health.
  3. Milk and egg yolks –– Combine milk and egg yolks, and massage it into your nails. Once it has mostly dried, rinse it off and see how much better your fingernails look!
  4. Olive oil and lemon juice — This is one heck of a potent combination, one that will do wonders for your fingernails. The Vitamin C from the lemon juice can help to get rid of infection, and the olive oil will protect your nails and the surrounding skin. Mix a few drops of lemon juice into a teaspoon of olive oil, and massage the mixture into your nails for maximum efficiency.
  5. Lemon juice –– Apply a bit of lemon juice to your nails, let the juice dry, and rinse with warm water. This will help to get rid of any yellowing on the nails.

  1. Vitamin E capsules — Get a Vitamin E capsule, bite off one end, and squeeze the oil onto your fingernails. Massage the oil into your nails and the surrounding skin, and let the oil sit overnight. You can wear manicure gloves to help improve the efficiency of the Vitamin E treatment.
  2. Moisturizing massage — Grab your favorite moisturizing cream or lotion and massage it into your fingernails. Take a few minutes on each nail, massaging the nail itself and the surrounding skin gently. The massage will help to increase circulation to the area, which will in turn improve the health of your nails.
  3. Herbal mask –– Mix up chamomile and peppermint tea, steep for 90 minutes, add in a teaspoon of olive oil and 2 tablespoons of wheat flour, mix well, and apply to your nails. Let the mask sit for 30 minutes before rinsing.
  4. Beer, olive oil, and apple cider vinegar — This may sound odd, but it works! Use a quarter cup of olive oil (warming it up beforehand), and pour in half a cup of beer and a quarter cup of apple cider vinegar. Give your nails about 15 minutes to soak in this mixture, and repeat this a couple of times a week to see amazing improvement in your nail health.
  5. Vaseline –– Apply Vaseline as a protective, hydrating layer on your fingernails, and it will reduce the damage done to your fingernails throughout the day.
