6 Health Benefits of Krill Oil

Written by andy

Have you popped one of these oil pills? The health benefits of krill oil might surprise you.

Fish oil is well-known to be one of the best supplements to take for a healthy body. It is recommended by fitness trainers, coaches, dieticians, and nutritionists around the world thanks to its many health benefits. Krill oil is similar to fish oil in many ways. It contains a similar nutritional profile, and it offers many of the same improvements to your health. While it may not be “fish” oil per se (krill are crustaceans, not fish), you’ll find that the health benefits of krill oil make it an excellent choice for you:

  • Provide essential fatty acids — Krill oil contains DPA and EHA, the two essential fatty acids that make fish oil such an awesome health booster. While krill oil contains only 37% of the fatty acids found in fish oil, the benefits offered by krill oil are almost exactly the same as those of fish oil. This means that krill oil is just as good despite containing less Omega-3 fatty acids!
  • Improve heart health –– Fish and krill oil both offer you an amazing benefit: a reduction in triglycerides. Triglycerides are basically little fat particles floating through your bloodstream, which your body will use to increase your overall fat stores. By decreasing the levels of triglycerides in your body, you’re basically stopping your body from storing fat. Lower triglyceride levels can also lead to a reduction in total cholesterol levels.
  • Improve lipid profile –– Your liver is the organ responsible for processing all of the fat that enters your body. Fish oils have been proven an effective remedy to enhance liver function, this increasing your body’s ability to metabolize fat. Krill oil does the same thing, enhancing fat metabolism in your liver and speeding up the rate at which fat is processed. It has even proved MORE effective than fish oil! For those worried about fatty liver disease, krill oil is an even better supplement than fish oil.

  • Low risk of heavy metals –– One of the things that makes people hesitate to try fish oil (aside from the taste, of course) is the risk of toxicity. Thanks to the pollution in the ocean, a large percentage of fish are contaminated with toxins, chemicals, and heavy metals. When they are turned into fish oil, those harmful chemicals remain. Krill, on the other hand, is less likely to be polluted. Your risk of heavy metal poisoning is much lower, making krill oil a healthier choice.
  • Resists oxidation –– When exposed to oxygen, fish oil tends to go rancid fairly quickly. This is why fish oil is usually packaged in capsules, rather than in a bottle. However, krill oil does NOT go bad when exposed to oxygen. In fact, it can remain undamaged for up to 190 hours of consistent oxygen exposure. This is wonderful for those who are investing in krill oil supplements. The supplements will last much longer, reducing the risk of waste.
  • Offers many more health benefits –– Thanks to the Omega-3 fatty acids in the oil, you can have healthier joints, reduced inflammation, a better functioning immune system, and the list goes on. Krill oil, like fish oil, can prevent stress from causing health problems, can boost brain function, reduce your risk of kidney disease, reduce PMS symptoms, and even protect your body from oxidative stress.

These are just a few of the many health benefits of krill oil. As you can see, there’s a lot this oil–made from tiny crustaceans–can do to boost your health!
