Unusual Houses: Woman Turns Her Old Bank Into a Luxury Home

A Pennsylvania woman turns the bank she once worked at into a luxury home.

If you are like me, your dream is to buy a building that would never normally be considered a house, and renovate it into a dream home. My plan is to one day buy a cathedral, and make my bedroom under a huge stained glass window. I love unusual houses, especially in unusual formats.

Cathy Calhoun, of Spring City, PA first worked as a bank teller at the National Bank of Spring City. She eventually opened her own jewelry store and “made bank” pun intended, but she never forgot her first job, and bought the vacant bank building in 1989 for $52,000. 24 years of renovations later, the building is now a gorgeous luxury home, complete with 3 bedrooms and baths. You can get the gist of it from the video, but the most awesome thing is that there are 222 abandoned safety deposit boxes that she hasn’t been able to open, so there is no telling what kind of treasure awaits her.
