Kids nowadays just don’t drink like they used to.
Call me a traditionalist, but drinking is a big part of my life. I probably only drink once or twice a week, but when I do, I go hard, and often find myself face-down in the toilet bowl the next morning reminding myself that I’m 32. This is a symptom of my generation, a generation that drank their tits off in college, and went to bars to meet people, and didn’t really have access to a ton of drugs.
Things are changing, however. Kids nowadays are meeting online instead of going to bars. They are going to music festivals instead of clubs. And they are choosing drugs over liquor. Even in the gay community, my early 20-something gay friends often eschew drinking at all, instead opting for molly, K, or G. If you don’t know what those are, I invite you to Google. Still, there seem to be a few actual reasons why people aren’t drinking as much nowadays.

For one, health is super important to a lot of people, and most diets discourage drinking.
Secondly, this is the generation of social media, and 66 % of people between the ages of 16-24 say that liquor isn’t important to them socially because it makes them look bad on social media.
Lastly, weed is like, basically legal. I don’t know if you have picked up on this but weed is everywhere, and everyone is smoking it. Once you smoke past the paranoia, it can actually be really fun to go out high, and there is no nasty hangover the next day.
If our culture shifts and decides to stop drinking so much as a whole, I am totally okay with that. Things have to change eventually. I kind of feel bad though, that kids these days won’t know the desperation of picking up a random stranger to go home with, drunk off your ass at 3 AM in a sex theatre.
