Hippie Meets Science Geek Chic?

Written by Maura

Trust me, it works.

I’ve often been accused of being two things- a hippie and a nerd.  I am a bit of a free spirit and I do read for fun but I don’t know if I have quite deserved those titles. However, both my hippie and nerdy tendencies stood at attention when I came across this artist. Her name is Michele Banks, and she’s a Washington D.C. based painter who works in watercolor. The wet-on-wet technique she uses makes her paintings look almost like tie dye but her subject matter is purely scientific (cell division, mitosis etc.), thus fusing my two normally mismatched traits beautifully.

FYI, she sells originals only, no prints, so you know you are getting a one of a kind piece. You can check out more of her work at Maker’s Market

About the author

Maura

a born and raised Brooklyn girl who has adopted a bit of the Southern girl charm from spending the last 3 years as a college student in Mobile, Alabama. While away from home she misses the fast paced lifestyle and could kill for a real slice of pizza. She is obsessed with shoes, sushi, her Paul Mitchell straightening iron, and lusting after her David Yurman favorite ring of the week.
