Shaving Product Round Up! Edge vs. Cremo Cream

Written by admin

I hate shaving. My skin is very sensitive, and if I try to shave with any greater frequency than every three days my face gets ripped to shreds. I think I look better with a week’s worth of scruff, but with social conventions being what they are I have no choice but to shave down to baby smoothness every once and a while.

Before:

1 week of fairly thick beard scruff. Bring it on.

On the Left: Edge Infused Hydrate ($2.99) – www.edgeshave.com

Edge has remixed their shaving gel to include more moisturizers, anti-oxidants, ginseng, caffeine, and watermint. It’s a light, airy foam with a pleasantly strong blast of wintergreen scent.

On the Right: Cremo Cream ($8) – www.cremocream.com

A glycerin and oil free cream shave that’s more of a lubricant than a lather. Pleasant, lemon juice from concentrate scent, moisturizers, bold claims of being better than anything else you use.

The Instrument: Gillette Fusion Power ($9.99) – www.gillettefusion.com

A vibrating five bladed razor with a precision trimmer and few extra perks. “Micropulses” feel more like vibration.

The Results:

Both sides got the job done, with my face coming out none too worse for wear. While Edge Infused was fine, I am surprised to report that Cremo Cream was indeed a much better shave. The blade glided better, requiring less hacking on my thick beard, less gum in the blades, and less damage to my face. Some may have a hard time getting used to shaving with a cream, but its definitely worth it.

As Gillette Fusion Power did a nice job, and turning on the vibrating function made the blade cut a lot more efficiently with less pressure. Sort of like an electric carving knife at Thanksgiving! I don’t know if I’ll give up my Mach 3 though, as I felt the 5 blades added little action and the narrow gap between the blades required more cleaning with my thick beard hair.

Winner: Cremo Cream

Honorable mention: Shaving with a vibrating razor.

  • I wish I could have a beard like that after one week!! 30 years old and still cant grow a full beard 😉

  • I noticed that Edge Infused also has a cream in a tube available at Target. Did you try that?

  • The best shaving cream I’ve ever found was from Santo Maria Novella. I first discovered the company in florence italy, and was told they are the oldest apothocary in Italy. I brought the shaving cream and hand cream back for my dad and he was seriously sad when it ran out. Low and behold, i stopped some lady on the street who was carrying a bag frm the apolothocary and I was hoping the bag wasn’t from italy. It turns out they opened downtown on Lafayette. So the story ends with me giving my dad the same gift for the past 3 years, and any time I need to get a gift for a guy I get the shaving cream. To be honest, I’ve never actually tried it, but I get the best reactions from people – i’ve had 2 people tell me I’ve changed their life. The secret I think is that the shaving cream is made from olive oil, but don’t take my word. It’s pretty expensive though I think it is $30 – which is kind of a lot for shaving cream..

  • Cremo Cream is very similar to Maria Novella–I have used both…but its 8 bucks versus $30
