Attention: Yiking is the Latest Dance Craze

Yiking in Red Nose

Everyone is over twerking, and rapper Sage knows it. Yiking is the new twerking. It originated with Sage’s song “Red Nose,” and, according to the artist, it is “a very positive movement that’s going on in the Bay Area right now.” So this is a good thing.

Yiking in Red Nose

What is it exactly? Well, it has been described as twerking’s big brother, and in the words of some yiking experts, the definition is, “extreme twerking.” This may require some Google searching. It also has a more wide-ranging target audience. Sage notes that he’s even seen grandmothers documenting their yiking on Vine. Fun for all ages!

So yiking is not necessarily the new twerking, but perhaps the new hyphy, which you may remember as the last Bay Area rap movement that emerged in the late 90s and early 2000s. Hyphy was a response from Bay Area rappers against commercial hip hop for not acknowledging their region for setting trends in the hip hop industry. Looks like their response worked, because yiking is definitely being acknowledged and totally trending.
