Best of Boston: The Ames, Yoga, & Food

Written by Bryce

Boston faves (and clam strips, yum).

There are a lot of things to love about Boston- the people, the food, the breezes off the water, and especially the proximity to NYC. I feel like I do a lot of Boston, Chicago, and DC trips because the shuttle flights are just so darn easy (seriously, it’s a 35 minute flight from NYC to Boston).  On my most recent business trip to Boston I had the pleasure of some fabulous fall-fashion previews, but perhaps most importantly, I spent almost a full 24 hours devoted to relaxing and general life enjoyment. Phew.

My second night in Boston was at the fabulous Ames Hotel, which is part of the Morgans Hotel Group, the same group responsible for one of my favorite fun spots ever- The Delano in Miami. Before ever stepping foot in The Ames I knew it would be my scene: fresh, modern, and full of that Eurotrashy group that feels so good. It was. I was also particularly fond to find free wifi, and a bowl of glazed nuts in my room.  Obviously they knew I wouldn’t be bringing any other nuts into the room, so they were happy to provide for me.  The room had high ceilings, a Euro-style bathroom, and mirrors that giant mirrors that helped me easily decided between the new outfits I had just purchased before checking in.

Shortly after checking in I decided to head over to one of the best spas in Massachusetts as a whole- OMBE Center.  Our friends at The Daily Obsession gave OMBE rave reviews, so I knew it was worth  trying. This health and wellness mini-retreat is tucked into the 4th floor of a cute building in a seemingly bustling Boston neighborhood.  Somehow you would never know it was there unless you were actively seeking it.  That’s one of the best parts- the whole places is a hidden treasure in every sense.  I took a yoga class designed for runners even though I hardly ever run (ya, I jog along the Hudson river with my babyjogger but I would hardly say I’m qualified to race anyone).  I was surprised, but a yoga class for runners was actually exactly what I needed- an hour long DEEP stretching session that didn’t leave me at all sore, but somehow breathing and feeling immensely better than when I walked in.  Instructor Rachael Lappen made gentle adjustments here or there, but for the most part just used accurate descriptions to lead us into the correct poses- aaaaaah perfect.

My trip ended a bit more abruptly than I expected- I got called back to NYC in a jiffy, and had to hop on a standby flight back to Laguardia.  I didn’t have oodles of time for food, but I figured I had just enough time to head to the food court by Fanueil Hall to get a quick handfull of local fried clam strips (a treat that I wouldn’t normally have), a walk down by the water, and then my old standby favorite: Dunkin Donuts.

I know Dunkin doesn’t exactly seem like glam business trip fare, but there’s something about a large iced coffee with skim that sets any day off in the right direction.  Thank goodness I found a Dunkin on just about every street corner in Boston (much like New York).

Yes, Boston, I will be seeing you again soon.
