Organic burial pods aim to replace coffins, and turn your dead body into the Tree of Life.
I have always thought that when I die, I want to be cremated. Something about my body rotting in a wooden box totally freaks me out and seems like a total waste, but much of the religious, God-fearing world sees it differently. I would much prefer to have my ashes stored in a glitter statue in my exact likeness, housed in a mausoleum with couches and a bar, so my friends can still hang out with me. Organic burial pods may have changed my mind however, because there is pretty much nothing more awesome than becoming a tree that keeps living, going, breathing, and acting as a habitat for other living creatures.

Originating in Italy, the Capsula Mundi Project involves organic, biodegradable burial capsules that transform dead people into trees. The body is encapsulated in a fetal position, and either a seed or actual tree is planted above the capsule. The body nurtures the tree as it decomposes, and in that way, you literally become a tree. Your organic matter becomes the tree’s feast, and there’s something so “Tree of Life” about this that I might even pick up a bible.
Currently, Italian law prohibits this kind of burial, but I think its only a matter of time before the Capsula Mundi Project becomes a legit way to remember your loved ones.
No word on if it’s illegal for pets, though. Even if you’re morally opposed to this on a human level, it may be something commemorative and beautiful for a loved furry friend.
