Decor Spotting: Bring the night inside

Written by Gary

In a place where we are constantly building up, sometimes it is necessary to go down, too. The problem with basement apartments though? No windows.

If you live in New York, (I am assuming you do since I live in a 12 mile bubble and have no inkling of how the internet communicates with people outside Manhattan) odds are you know someone, or are someone who lives in a basement apartment. In a place where we are constantly building up, sometimes it is necessary to go down, too. The problem with basement apartments though? No windows.

Let me be frank (Lisa Frank), you aren’t fooling anyone by putting up a huge scene of a grassy knoll and a sunny day.

One thing you should consider for your décor however, is a night scene. The reason people like natural light so much is because it provides a space with a certain energy. That specific energy is hard to duplicate with a fake daylight scene, but an energetic, powerful night scene is a different beast entirely. Consider it embracing the natural darkness of your apartment. Whereas a daylight scene can look a little try-too-hardsy, a vivacious nightlife scene will look chic and add a sense of power to any windowless apartment.
