The Easiest Zaatar Bread Recipe Ever

It will take you less than 20 minute to make this mouth-watering zaatar bread recipe.

Bring a bit of tasty Middle Eastern flavor into your kitchen with the easiest Zaatar Bread Recipe ever. It’s a semi-homemade recipe that relies on store-bought pizza dough (believe it or not, this dough is nearly identical to the one you’d find in Middle Eastern kitchens) and high-quality Za’atar seasoning. Eat it alone, dipped in labne or as part of a brunch spread with our spiced roasted chickpeas recipe.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole premade pizza dough (these are usually found in the refrigerated section of your local supermarket)
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tbsp za’atar seasoning blend (we love this one best)

Directions

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Unwrap your refrigerated pizza dough and coat it gently in a bit of olive oil (I like to use an olive oil mister for this so it’s not too oily).
  • Divide the dough into 6 equal sections
  • On a wood cutting board or non-stick surface, begin to roll each section into a long, thin piece
  • Hold each section from the middle point, and then twirl the “legs” around to form a sort of semi-braided strand. Place on a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Crack your egg into a bowl with a teaspoon of water and mix. Use this egg wash to coat the tops of your bread twists.
  • Sprinle generously with za’atar seasoning.
  • Bake for 10 to 15 minutes (or until golden brown on the top).

Notes: I love serving these with a bit of extra virgin olive oil and flaked sea salt or with rich, herb-infused labne (the traditional Middle Eastern way) as a dip.

Gear you’ll need

  • A brush for distributing your egg wash over the top of your dough
  • High-quality zaatar seasoning
  • Parchment paper
  • Baking sheet
