FDA-Approved Juvederm Ultra XC Fills Lips and Lines for 1 Year

Written by Bryce

Juvederm Ultra XC was just approved by the FDA to fill lips for 1 year.

Using fillers to enhance lips and smooth out the lines on and around them is nothing new— doctors have been doing it for years, but until recently there hasn’t been a product FDA-approved to last as long as a full year. Filling lips is hardly groundbreaking, but giving patients the freedom to have less frequent appointments and injections is certainly worth talking about.

“In my opinion, Juvederm Ultra XC is the gold standard for minimally-invasive lip enhancement. This is our preferred product to inject into the lips because it’s the softest of the products, has great longevity, and feels the most natural. My patients pass the ‘Kiss Test’ when we use Juvederm Ultra XC,” Dr. Anthony Youn, board-certified plastic surgeon and member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, explained to me after we chatted about the recent FDA-approval.

While some doctors have suggested anecdotally that competing fillers may work for similar periods of time, none have nabbed the much-covered FDA-approval stating so.

“We have been using Juvederm products ever since they were FDA approved, back in 2006. There are huge differences in the various fillers that are being used. Radiesse is not FDA approved for the lips, and therefore should not be used there. Although Restylane Silk is FDA approved for the lips, I find that most of my patients have a softer, more natural result with Juvederm Ultra XC.”

Clinical trials showed that more than 78% of patients using Juvederm Ultra XC were satisfied with the look and feel of their lips at the one year mark. The FDA-approval has come with a caveat, though— the product is only approved this filler for adults 21 and over.

“Our patients love Juvederm Ultra for the lips. It is easy to inject, lasts a long time, and feels and looks natural.”
