With over 10,000 square feet of living space and design touches from every era, this mansion is one of New York’s most eclectic castles.

One of New York’s most eclectic castles sits on 83 private acres just north of New York City. It’s just a stone’s throw from the Happy Hill mansion in Westchester and the sought-after Catskills castle and New Jersey’s authentic Tudor-style castles we recently profiled.

“Welcome to an exquisite replica of Salutation, an English Georgian masterpiece originally crafted by Sir Edwin Lutyens in England,” begins the listing for 422 Hardscrabble Road in North Salem, New York.

“Located on an 83-acre estate in North Salem, NY, this luxurious home offers over 10,000 square feet of living space, including 10 bedrooms and multiple baths. The property features an infinity pool and an indoor pool with spa.”

It is listed at $12,000,000—though we think a tremendous portion of the value exists in the phenomenal land and the home’s bones. If you’re spending this much money, you’ll probably want to get all the rooms aligned on a single design and decor concept.

“The home includes a Boffi kitchen that opens to the family room with a double-sided gas fireplace. A dramatic staircase with antique limestone and wrought-iron railing.”

We’re impressed by the 22-foot ceilings that graciously greet you upon entry and wow guests. An antique-feeling walnut-paneled library with a fireplace provides a cozy retreat on cool New York days. Surprisingly, this room (and the rest of the house) was only constructed in 1995.

“The primary bedroom suite offers ample closet space and a dressing room. The living room and rear parlor each have fireplaces, while the dining room features a herringbone floor and another fireplace. The second floor includes the primary bedroom, library, and two additional bedrooms with ensuite baths.”

There are so many gorgeous and light, bright rooms to choose from. The bedrooms are 10/10 authentic Georgian castle replicas if you ask us.

The third floor has seven more bedrooms, each as quaint and filled with old-English charm as the next (although a handful of rooms have decidedly Colonial American decor.)

The kitchen and dining areas are particularly eclectic though, with sleek, modern finishes rivaling the classic antique feel of most of the home’s other rooms. We can’t make sense of his this happened.

It’s almost as if the property owners rolled dice to choose design schemes each time a room came up for renovation or improvement.

And just a few feet away from the industrial chic kitchen is a completely old school dining that looks like it was set in the days of Queen Victoria.

But, nevertheless, there’s plenty of space for a collection of vintage cast iron skillets and all the best gifts for men under $50 that help him whip up magical meals.

Several of the communal living rooms and dens also follow an eclectic design pattern, although these rooms seem to have a bit more flow with the castle’s intended design scheme.

“Equestrian facilities include paddocks, grooms quarter, 11 stalls, a tractor barn and a jumping field. The English-style garden, fruit trees, lily pond, and reflecting pool enhance the beauty of the grounds, which also include open fields and a large pond for fishing.”

“A long driveway ensures privacy, yet the estate is just over an hour from New York City. The carriage house provides four garage bays and two apartments.”

“Recent renovations on the lower level include a new kitchen, half bath, home theater, bar, game room, and a tunnel to the indoor pool. This breathtaking estate offers unparalleled luxury and privacy.”
