Your Phone Could be Killing Your Sperm

Written by andy

The radiation from your phone is DANGEROUS!

Where do you carry your phone? For many men, the ideal place to put their phone is in their pocket. It’s easily accessible, safe from pickpockets, and you’ll feel the vibrations of a notification alert. The front pocket is the perfect location to carry your phone.

Or is it? According to new research, carrying your phone in your pocket could be killing off sperm!

Researchers in Australia systematically reviewed 27 research papers on radiation, and were shocked to discover cell phones could be the cause of low sperm count. Cell phones placed close to the genitals for prolonged periods of time could have a significant effect on sperm count, and may even damage the surviving sperm.

Now, let’s be clear: there is no scientific explanation for how the non-ionizing radiation let off by cell phones harms the body. Researchers have yet to discover a credible link between the two, so critics call the veracity of the studies into question. However, suffice it to say that there is a distinct correlation between cell phone proximity and reduced sperm count and quality.

The Australian review found that radiofrequency electromagnetic radiation (the sort released by cell phones) could damage the male germ line—the DNA in the sperm. Most studies have indicated a decrease in sperm viability and motility as a result of exposure to this type of radiation. In fact, 21 of the studies found a casual link between sperm damage and radiation. Sperm motility decreased by 8% as a result of mobile phone exposure, while sperm viability decreased by 9%. Sperm concentration decreased even more significantly!

The truth is that the sperm cell is a highly vulnerable organism. It is affected by a surprising number of things, and it can suffer damage a lot more easily than expected. Cell phone radiation is just one of the things that can lead to sperm mutation and damage. However, the fact that SO MANY men use cell phones—and place them so close to the genitals—makes it one of the leading causes for concern.

Did you know that the WHO classified cell phone radiation as a “possible 2B carcinogen”? That means even the World Health Organization perceives cell phone radiation as a threat. Realizing this may help to put cell phone usage and exposure into perspective.

Should you give up using your cell phone altogether? Not really possible, is it? Our lives revolve so much around the use of mobile phones and other devices which, sadly, give off radiation. It’s nearly impossible to imagine a life without our cell phones. We’d never be able to tweet, text, write down important ideas, send reminders, and stay in touch.

But here’s something you CAN do: change the location of your phone. Understand that the phone is going to give off radiation, and that radiation WILL affect you. Definitely move it away from the sensitive genital area, and consider storing it in your back pocket or breast pocket. However, remember that those areas are also going to be exposed to radiation, thereby increasing your risk of skin and breast cancer.

If possible, keep your phone NOT on your person. When in the car, place it in the cell phone holder. When at work, place it on your desk. Try carrying it around in your purse or bag rather than in your pocket. There may not be a clear link between cancer and cell phones, but the correlation is there. It’s up to you to take steps to be smart and safe and reduce your risk of cancer!
