Introducing the Tampon Chandelier

I figured that title didn’t really need any other explanation. Since the dawn of time, men and women have used tampons for many things; plugging up bleeding vaginas, fixing bloody noses, embarrassing boyfriends at the drugstore, and even celebrating menstruation, since it is the opposite of children. An artist named Joana Vasconcelos decided to take it one step further, and create a huge lighting fixture made out of tampons.

Vasconcelos is known for creating artwork out of strange source materials, and the tampon chandelier is no exception. Made out of 14,000 tampons, the vagina chandy is about 16 feet tall. From afar, it just looks like another huge, gaudy chandelier that belongs in the kitchen of a rich Middle Eastern rug manufacturer, but from up close the work of art could be used to save 14,000 women from a really embarrassing white pants during your period type of moment.

The tampon chandelier is no longer on exhibit, but it will serve as artistic inspiration for us all until the day that all vaginas finally dry up.
