2016 Health Trends to Expect (and look forward to)

The 2016 Health Trends to expect and look forward to:

2015 has been an amazing year for the health and fitness industry. More and more people have begun to take care of their bodies and their health, including eating right, getting more active, and looking for natural solutions to problems once treated by medication. All the signs point to an even better 2016!

Here are a few health trends to expect for 2016:

  • Plant-based diets — More and more plant-based proteins are being created every year. Scientists and researchers are looking for ways to turn plant proteins into tasty, healthy meat substitutes. The Average Joe is understanding that fruits, veggies, herbs, nuts, and seeds are the healthiest option. Look for more plant-based diets in 2016 health trends.
  • Sustainable eating –– Farm-to-table, locally-grown, and eco-friendly are all the rage these days! Plant-heavy diets with less meat, smaller portions, and locally-sourced foods are going to become trendier as more people realize we can’t keep straining our planet’s resources.
  • Reduced chemicals –– More and more people are realizing that the chemicals in their foods, drinks, beauty products, and other healthcare items are dangerous! This means that more people are going to look for simple, natural products that are as free of chemicals and toxins as possible.
  • Wearable fitness tech — FitBit, Apple Watch, Garmin, and Jawbone are just a few of the brands that are releasing highly versatile fitness trackers. These devices help people to integrate fitness into every area of their lives, and more and more people will use wearable fitness tech to stay on top of their activity levels and overall health.

  • The popularity of fitness — Thanks to Instagram, Vine, and other social media networks, fitness “celebrities” are the new “in thing”. The popularity of fitness models and trainers is encouraging people to care for themselves and their health, and is bringing fitness back in a big way. 2016 health trends will be fitness-focused, finally!
  • Yoga –– You’d be amazed by how many different types of Yoga are now available around the country. From the more traditional types of Yoga (Ashtanga or Flow Yoga) to more modern Yoga (Hot Yoga) to the mash-up Yoga styles (Aerial or Cycling Yoga) or even the “way out in left field” types of Yoga (Ganja Yoga), Yoga is in. 2016 will see the creation of more new and creative forms of Yoga, finding new ways to incorporate Yoga’s mobility and flexibility training into workouts.
  • HIIT Training –– More and more research is being done into the benefits of High Intensity Interval Training every day, and the results are in: it works, and often better than jogging, cycling, or elliptical training! More gyms and trainers will offer HIIT training to their clients, and more people will take up the high intensity training method for two reasons: 1) it takes less time, and 2) it works!
  • Functional fitness training –– There will always be people training to pack on the pounds of muscle, but the modern perception of fitness is shifting away from solid muscle mass. Instead, the “fittest of all” are those with functional strength, the sort used in activities of daily life. Functional fitness will become increasingly popular in 2016 as more people realize how important it is to have strength according to your body weight, size, and daily activities.

These are just a few of the health trends to expect for 2016. If things continue as they have been over the last few years, 2016 could very well be the healthiest year ever!
