“A Happening” by Julian Jones-Pittman

A Happening is a performance, event or situation that is intended to be an art piece. The interaction between the action taking place and the viewers is part of the whole experience of the Happening. A Happening that relates to Graphic Design may communicate a visual message where the viewers have the power and freedom to reinterpret it to their own meaning. To inform, persuade, organize, stimulate, locate, identify, attract attention and to provide visual pleasure.

Graphic designers are the link between the client and the audience. Essentially serving as translators. The typical nature of a designer is often described as pedantic, perfectionists, and very likely obsessive. Our intent is to demonstrate to the audience what designers are capable of: taking the meticulous task of organizing materials of which are uncontrollable and organic. Forms emerged out of loose materials found on the grounds of the urban landscape. Excess plant materials are arranged into letters or shapes to create a design, word, or message of expression to passersby.
