If you haven’t picked up Beyonce’s new album, you are not living your best life. In one song “***Flawless,” Queen Bey has a feminist give her thoughts on feminism on the track and leaves you with the definition of feminist. A feminist is a person who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes. Is that who Miley Cyrus is?
The New York Times sat down with the pop-singer and asked all the questions that we’ve always wanted answers to. In typical Miley fashion, she gave completely candid answers, which we totally respect. She talked about Joe Jonas accusing her of giving him weed for the first time to which she responds, “There’s nothing two little girls are going to get you to do that you don’t want to do.” Ain’t that the truth. Do you know how many times two girls kept trying to get me to play doctor? It was never going to happen. She also knows the power her bad girl image has.
She also knows who her target market is. “…I never want to be that person that’s, like, talking to 16- and 17-year-olds and being being, like, ‘smoke weed,'” she says about her drug use and what projects she won’t take right now. But is she a feminist? “We know we’re not racist and we know I’m not putting down women. People got a rise out of me saying that I was a feminist, but I am. I’m telling women be whoever you want to be,” she says about her message. While she may not be on the same level of female empowerment as Beyonce, she is still sending a message that women out there can get behind.
