These Underpants Could Safeguard Against Testicular Radiation from Cellphones

Protect your manhood!

Up until 100 years ago, few people had ever heard of radiation, and there were no dangerous sources of it. Now, radiation is everywhere! It’s in the rays of the sun (courtesy of the holes in the ozone layer), in our mobile phones and portable devices, and even in our home appliances. If you’re not careful, the radiation in the world around you could lead to health problems.

Thankfully, someone has come up with one clever way to protect a vital part of the male anatomy from radiation. That’s right, a French company named Spartan has created a pair of underwear intended to prevent testicular radiation.

Testicular radiation has become a much greater threat in recent years thanks to the popularity of smartphones. Storing your smartphone in your front pocket places it close to your testicles. The low-level radiation emitted by the smartphones may increase the risk of testicular problems. Studies have revealed that men who store their smartphones in their front pockets have a significantly lower sperm count.

Enter the Spartan boxer brief. The product was launched via Indiegogo, a crowdfunding platform that enabled the French company to raise over $26,000.  Thanks to the backing of individuals around the world, Spartan was able to produce a pair of boxer briefs that can block more than 99% of all Wi-Fi and mobile phone radiation.

To block the radiation, Spartan created a high-tech fabric that combined silver fiber into the cotton weave. The silver acts as electromagnetic shielding (a sort of Faraday cage for your testicles!) that prevents the radiation from hitting your genitals.

These are more than just functional—they’re also a highly stylish pair of underwear. They’re cut in the modern boxer brief style, and they look as good as any normal pair of underwear you’d buy at your local department store.  In addition to maximum comfort and fit, they also provide an antibacterial fabric that can reduce the risk of bacterial infections on the genitals.

Remember that bacteria love to grow in warm, moist places. For most guys, there are few places warmer and moister than in their underwear. Thanks to the unique design of Spartan, the underwear will reduce the risk of bacterial growth. This can not only combat infections, but will prevent odors (the result of bacteria feeding on sweat). Basically, this product could put an end to smelly underwear.

Is the problem of testicular radiation serious enough to warrant such an invention? A 2014 study published in the Central European Journal of Urology found that there was a significant difference between the sperm motility of men who stored cell phones in their front pocket and men who didn’t. The group that stored their mobile phone in their front pockets had a significantly higher number of non–progressive movement spermatozoa, and the instances of DNA fragmentation in the sperm was also higher. Basically, this means YES, the risk of testicular radiation from your cell phone is a very real threat.

These underwear are just one of the ways you can prevent testicular radiation from being a problem. You can also stop carrying your cell phone in your front pocket. Don’t put it in your back pocket, though, as you may end up causing low-grade radiation damage to the skin of your bottom. Instead, carry it on a clip on your belt, or in your jacket pocket. Better yet, keep it in your laptop bag or briefcase. The farther away it is from your skin, the better!
