It is a debate that is twice as old as time, and half as old as Madonna. Does smart really equal sexy?
Our immediate reaction is to just say yes, because we have been conditioned to believe that we should be attracted to upwardly mobile, respectful guys. If we sit back and think about it for a second though, we have all gone through a bad boy phase – and I would be willing to bet that big dumb guys hold some attraction (if only physical) for all of us.
The first thing we have to admit is that physical and mental/emotional attraction are two completely different things. I bet there have been times in your life when all you wanted was for some big burly cage-fighter to break down your door and manhandle you on top of your washer/dryer combo. There were probably other times when you really wanted a sensitive, intelligent guy to listen to your needs and support you emotionally.
Neither of these desires is wrong, but I guess my conclusion is that at different times in our lives we want different things. If you can separate physical desires from the mental/emotional then you can understand that smarter doesn’t always mean sexier, and sometimes a big, dumb guy can be more fulfilling than one that cries with you when you watch chick flicks such as Hope Floats.
