As predicted by, well, pretty much everyone, ChatRoulette has replaced Craig’s List and dating sites net-wide as the premiere vehicle for getting your sketchy internet hookup on.
A new site combines my favorite internet concept, the missed connection, with Chat Roulette. The result? A bunch of lonely cam chatters looking to reconnect with people they will likely never meet offline.
I’ll be honest. After writing about how vomtastic Chat Roulette was, I second-guessed my conclusions. Maybe I’d been too harsh. So last night, I tried it again– alone. After spinning the proverbial chamber, I was pleased to find that Chat Roulette wasn’t nearly as mortifying as my initial experience had led me to believe. I also found that sites like Chatroulette Missed Connections (that name oozes with the creativity it takes to merge two net phenomenas and call it something new) are likely useless.
Why? Well, wouldn’t a successful chat session end in exchanging some sort of contact information? I had some great conversations last night– nothing prolific, but preferable to being verbally assaulted– and despite this pleasant turn of events, I still found myself hitting ‘Next’ after a minute or so. Pleasant doesn’t equate exciting. It more likely equates boring. My chat partners are people that, for all intents and purposes, I have no desire to talk to or think about ever again. If I’d hit it off with someone, I probably wouldn’t leave it to chance to reunite us via some bootleg missed connections site. Save for the rare occasion that someone’s computer (unintentionally) dies during a lifequaking conversation, I don’t see the point.
That being said, I wish Chatroulette Missed Connections (seriously, man. There had to have been a catchier URL available) the best of luck and hope the chamber is loaded the day I think about posting there.
the phrase is “for all intents and purposes” not ‘intensive purposes’ silly billy
No shame in my game 😛 Thanks! Fixed.
