Frequent Yeast Infections May Be Linked to Diet; Here’s Why

Written by andy

Find out why the food you eat could be causing the candida yeast…

It’s a well-documented fact that the food you eat affects more than just your waistline! Your diet affects your health overall, often in many ways you don’t realize. For example, not getting enough calcium in your diet can lead to bone health problems, which may eventually turn into osteoporosis when you grow older.

One of the links few people understand is the connection between the food you eat and the frequency of yeast infections. Yeast infections are caused by candida yeast, but did you know that this fungi is actually present in your body AT ALL TIMES? It’s found in your vagina, your mouth, under your armpits, and other areas. Your immune system is usually able to stop it from spreading and causing infection, but it’s always there. If you’re not careful to eat right, you could cause the infections to be a common, recurring problem.

Why is that? There are a number of reasons why:

Poor diet leads to compromised immunity — If you don’t get the right balance of nutrients in your diet, your immune system is going to be compromised. Your immune system isn’t just one organ, but it’s a highly complex system with many working parts–all of which need proper nourishment. Vitamin C isn’t the only nutrient needed by your immune system, but ALL vitamins, minerals, fats, proteins, and even carbs play a role in your body’s defense system.

When you don’t get a healthy balance of nutrients in your diet, you may begin to develop certain deficiencies. A deficiency of nutrients needed by your immune system can reduce your immunity, leaving your body exposed to threats like candida yeast. That’s why it’s so important to eat the right foods to keep your immune system working well.

An acidic pH balance encourages Candida Yeast growth — Candida yeast (like all bacteria and fungi) need an acidic environment to grow. The human body is usually more alkaline than acidic, but improper diet (excessive consumption of sugar and artificial chemicals, not enough alkaline foods, etc.) can cause your body’s pH balance to shift to being more acidic. When this happens, it provides the yeast with a favorable environment, allowing it to multiply out of control.

To prevent this, it’s vital to eat foods that will keep the pH balance in your body firmly shifted toward the alkaline. This means you need to eat A LOT of vegetables, along with fruits, nuts, seeds, and other alkaline foods!

Certain foods feed the candida yeast — Candida yeast (and all fungi) thrive on sugar. If you consume a lot of sugar in your daily diet, you are basically feeding the infection. The more it feeds, the more it is able to multiply until it outnumbers and overwhelms the bacteria keeping it contained. And we’re not just talking about table sugar, but ALL sweeteners and forms of sugar (even fruit sugar). Eating them in excess is feeding the wrong organisms in your body.

This means that it’s time to cut out any food that increases your blood sugar levels. It goes beyond just high-sugar foods, but includes anything with a lot of carbs–such as pasta, bread, oats, corn, noodles, tempeh, coconuts, and even certain dairy products.

The truth is that your diet is very closely linked to your overall health! It’s vital that you understand this, and you take steps to clean up your diet in order to keep away problems like yeast infections.
