Grand Theft Adultery: Old Ho Edition

Written by Emily

Today Cynthia Shackelford, 60, took it to the airwaves to vent on Good Morning America and get total and ultimate revenge on her cheating husband and his mistress.  By using a 200 year-old law that’s still in effect in North Carolina (surprised? I’m not) she was able to use herself “as property” and therefore using herself as something “that could be stolen.”  She then sued Anne Lundquist, 49, under the “alienation of affection” law.  After being awarded the unprecedented amount of $9M, a reporter was rumored to have asked her what she was going to do now that she won.  She was overheard exclaiming: “I’m going to Wal-Mart to spend it on Bedazzlers, jean jackets, Mountain Dew, and Winne the Pooh shirts!”  Of course, this is just hearsay.

Now for serious business.  I for one am really pissed that someone that seems pretty educated thought this was a great defense to use.  I don’t know about you, but I’d rather just divorce my husband and take him to court.  Who needs Susan B. Anthony when we have Cynthia Shackelford from the great state of North Carolina?!   The irony of all this is that by calling herself “property” she is calling herself a hooker or slave by saying she was “owned” by her husband.  You triflin’ ho.  I wonder if this case will open up the doors for all the pimps in the states where this law is still in effect.  I guess this just proves what Jesus always said “You can’t turn the whore of Babylon into a housewife.”

  • There are certain countries she is just property. Got to hand it to her that she was able to sue the mistress, who is now stuck with a man who cheats and win 9M in damages. Good for her. Glad she went for the makeover vs. the bedazzler.

And don’t be surprised by laws that are still on the books in ALL states. NY has pulled a few old ones out to use in the last few years.
