Constance McMillan, a 18-year-old student at the Itawamba County Agricultural High School in Northern Mississipi, is head over heels in love with another chick from her class. She wants to take her girlfriend to senior prom and wear a tux instead of a dress for the occasion, but apparently, the school board officials are afraid that if she does, the party’s gonna turn into a shit show.
On February 5, all seniors received a memo spelling out criteria for bringing a date to the prom, and one requirement was that the person must be of the opposite sex. Shocked, Constance and her lover reached out to The American Civil Liberties Union of Mississippi in an effort to assert their rights. The school board was given until Wednesday to change that policy and allow the lezzies to arrive together at the dance on April 2, but instead, they decided to cancel the event, The Huffington Post reports.
