Discover what phone sex operators really look like.
I had a friend who moonlit as a phone sex operator in college. I remember we used to sit in her dorm room while she talked to random men on her LANDLINE and try to make her laugh. It wasn’t hard, by the way (no pun intended). With the rise of the Internet, phone sex lines have become a lot less popular, and yet every time I watch late night TV I am inundated with commercials for ‘sexy singles that like to stay in.’
So somebody out there still calls, apparently.
Philip Toledano’s book, Phonesex, is about removing the mystique of adult hotlines and getting to know the faces behind the voices of these phone sex operators. His photo series aims to explore the illusion that two people partake in when they connect through a phone sex line.
He has shot the operators in their homes, with children, pets, and everything.

Say what you will, but my guess is anyone who was born in the 80s or before has probably called a phone sex line at some point. 1-900-its-true (and you know it). In fact, calling a phone sex line and pretending to be a girl (back before my voice changed) was one of the ways I explored my sexuality as a young gay.
So see? It’s totally normal!
