Reiki for Mental Health

Written by andy

Find out why this Japanese healing technique can work for you…

Reiki is a healing technique that uses the natural energy within our bodies (what the Chinese refer to as “chi” or “qi”) to activate our bodies’ natural healing processes. Instead of using drugs or harsh treatments, the Reiki healing techniques focus on helping our bodies to make repairs on its own, leading to improved health and wellbeing.

Reiki is definitely a discipline that focuses on the physical aspects, but it can do a lot for the mental as well. The techniques work on many levels (emotional, mental, physical, and spiritual), and can be used to improve mental health in a number of ways:

  • Reduce stress — Reiki shares many similarities with meditation, and can offer similar benefits to meditation. It can reduce stress and promote healthy relaxation, reducing the negative effects of stress on the body. It will also restore your immune function, preventing high stress levels, from dampening your body’s natural protection.
  • Balances the emotions –– The Reiki techniques can help to balance out your emotions and calm your mind, similar to the way meditation does. For those who have to cope with a lot of emotional turmoil, Reiki can be a wonderful tool to help you manage the wide range of emotions you are dealing with.
  • Brings peace –– The goal of Reiki is to calm the mind and body and bring peace, thereby promoting healing. For those who deal with a lot of anxiety, the Reiki techniques can be a very useful tool to help you find peace even in very stressful situations.
  • Aids in grieving –– For those who have suffered loss or are trying to deal with a painful emotional situation, the Reiki techniques can be very useful. They help to clear your emotions, opening you up and allowing your emotions to come forth. This is like the “Acceptance” stage of the Five Stages of Grief. It will help you to feel the pain of loss, accept it, and move on with life

Does this sound like a bunch of mumbo jumbo to you? If you’re not the kind of person who believes in the healing power of meditation, don’t worry! There is a lot of proper scientific research that is proving that Reiki really does offer a lot of benefits.

One study conducted in Europe examined the effects of the Reiki healing techniques on 20 people suffering from pain caused by a number of factors. A second-degree Reiki healer administered the healing techniques, and all of the patients experienced a “highly significant” amount of pain reduction as a result of the healing therapy.

Managing pain isn’t the only thing that Reiki can do! All of the healing techniques are focused on opening the mind and body, unleashing the natural energy within us. Most of them are similar to meditation exercises, which multiple studies have proven to be effective at reducing pain, anxiety, stress, worry, and balancing your emotions.

If you want to improve your emotional wellbeing, you may want to consider Reiki for mental health. You may find that it’s just what you need to not only deal with your emotional/mental problems, but it can even address a few physical problems as well–pain, tight muscles, reduced organ function, and the list goes on. Even if you’re skeptical, you may want to consider it. If so many people from around the world have benefitted from the treatment, there’s a very real chance that you will, too. It can’t hurt to give it a try!
