Marriage has come up in a lot of my conversations lately. Its kind of a moot point since I am not technically allowed to get married and am also so overpoweringly awesome that nobody would be able to put up with me forever.
But one thing I have noticed with a lot of straight people is that their singleness has a shelf life. Society has bred us to believe that we are supposed to find our soul-mate in our mid-twenties ( in college for those of you who suffered through higher education like I did). There is a mad rush to find a mate as we near thirty. We are told we are supposed to settle down. Women in particular feel this all encompassing need to find a man and procreate before they expire.
But when I read this quote which is essentially the opposite of a “Happy Ever After” I can’t help but think it should be an option for everyone, man or woman. I think people should just stop listening to all the crap society shoves down our throats about male and female roles and marriage, figure out on an individual level exactly what we really want to do, and just do it. We waste some of our best years worrying about the future, and then 10 years down the line find out our husbands are fucking their secretaries and our children wish we were dead.
So do I believe in tying binding yourself legally to someone? No. Do I believe in love? Absolutely.
Above all life is meant to be a wild adventure. You will most likely find a person to go on that adventure with. But searching desperately for that person is probably the biggest thing that will stop you from finding them.
So fuck marriage. Have a beer.
