They say that once you give your heart away, you can never really give it back. I think this is invariably true. I have let a great many people into my heart (and my pants) over the years, and in the case of my heart most of them never escaped. In the case of my pants, they all escaped. They barely lived to tell the tale.
I believe that love lasts forever. At least in my case, once I let someone past all the bullshit that I normally surround myself with they are in for life. I don’t get super close with someone unless I am sure they are the type of person I would want in my life forever. Have you ever noticed that you still have a soft spot for someone, even a boyfriend that you broke up with many years ago? That’s called love.
Love evolves. Many people think that being “in love” and loving someone are the same thing but the truth is what we think of as “being in love” is infatuation. It’s like when I got my fleshlight, it was a shiny new toy and I used it all the time. Now it just sits collecting dust on my shelf, but I still remember the good times.
My point is that love evolves and changes, but it never really dies. I believe you should strive to keep the people you love in your life as long as possible, so that when you are old and gray, you have plenty of people around you to remind you just how amazing the journey has been, and how you filled the years with as much love as possible.
