Bryce Gruber’s Thoughts of the Day (life feels good edition)

Sexts, evil speech, housewives, & nails.

Dream as if you’ll live forever, live as if you’ll die today. -James Dean

1. Sext Messages. I had a really busy day today, and there was a significant portion of the afternoon that left me entirely too tied up to even look at my phone. By 4 PM I had to head all the way uptown to meet someone, so I hopped on the express train (which thankfully goes about 90 times faster than a cab on the FDR), found a seat between two sort of normal looking dudes, and proceeded to sort though the 19 text messages I hadn’t had a chance to look at from the past 2 hours. By the time I got to the 8th or 9th message I was totally engrossed in my phone and oblivious to the dudes next to me, especially the one to my left that was peering over my shoulder at my phone. Text #9 was a sext. Someone (the person will remain nameless) decided to send me a pretty raunchtastic photo of their penis. I obviously opened the photo, looked for a second or two (and I think I probably blushed), and then noticed the dude to my left shaking his head at me. Oops. He then got up and walked to the other side of the car… I’m assuming he was just intimidated by the size of the sext.

2. Feathers In The Wind. We all hear from day 1 of our lives that speaking badly about other people is just not good. There are practical reasons like wanting people to think we’re nice or good, or avoiding conflict, but the real reason we should all keep negativity out of our thoughts and off our tongues is because it festers like poison in the soul. My rabbi told me the story once of a man that didn’t understand why he shouldn’t say negative things about others even if they’re true. The rabbi told him that he would find the answer if the man would just follow his instructions. He instructed the man to get a feather pillow and bring it to the top of his roof in NYC. So the man did it. The rabbi shouted to him, “now cut the pillow.” So the man did it. The rabbi shouted, “now shake all the feathers out and into the wind.” The man did it, and the feathers went flying around the rooftop, off the building, and into the wind. The rabbi finally shouted, “now if you can go collect all the feathers, you can speak negative speech.” The moral of the story is that our negative thoughts and words can never be redeemed once they’re out floating around- there’s no way to 100% collect the damage they do or the pain they cause.

3. Cindy’s The New Housewife! My dear friend, Cindy Barshop, is the new housewife in town. Hope everyone’s staying tuned to Bravo tonight to see her gorgeous face! She’s the woman behind Completely Bare, vajazzling, and all the wonderful crotchtastic endeavors that we love to share with you <3 …btw, this picture was taken at her premiere party tonight, like 5 minutes ago. It’s that fresh.

4. New Manicure Crave. I’m totally digging the new Jason Wu nail polish collection by CND. I tried “Brigitte” today, a dusty rose-meets-grey color that’s basically rocking my world. It looks greyish brown in dim lighting, and sort of mauve-ish in full light. Totally recommend!

  • Love, love, love that manicure Bryce!
Unrelated question for The Luxury Spot crew. I will be headed to NYC for the second time in June. I’ve done the typical tourist type stuff on the first go around, any suggestions on must see/do’s in the city? Looking for some great spots to hit at night for dinner, dancing, drinking copious amounts of SoCo, etc.
As always, loving everything you guys bring to the website. Thx!
