Finally, I don’t have to worry about dropping my phone and shattering my screen! Thanks to Microsoft’s ground-breaking OmniTouch technology, now any surface (I know what you’re thinking, pervert) can be converted into a touch screen, be it your hand, your clothes, the wall, a tree trunk, you get the picture – the sky is the limit. This screen is projected Predator-style from a camera and projector perched atop your shoulder, which is the technology’s biggest challenge right now in luring people to embrace it. However, not to fret my little friend, developers claim that soon the projector and camera will be no bigger than a match box, which is definitely smaller and lighter than whatever phone you have now!
“We wanted to capitalize on the tremendous surface area the real world provides,” said Hrvoje Benko of the Natural Interaction Research group at Microsoft. The technology is so developed it combines a laser-based pico projector and depth-sensing camera. The depth sensing camera is almost like Microsoft’s Kinect camera for the Xbox 360 with an ability to work on short ranges.
Well, I was never too good on the Xbox, but Lord knows I could benefit from this “screenless” technology with my clutzy nature!
