The Hip-Hop Mix For Crushin’

Written by Steph

While perusing The Frisky the other day, I read something that struck a chord. Amelia, the editor of the site, mentioned that she has a thing for guys who listen to hip-hop. And for some reason, I relate 100%. Clearly, I’m no Around The Way Girl… but there’s something about a guy who appreciates good hip-hop that makes me swoon. So, here’s a playlist my boo can play to let me know he’s feelin’ me. Word.

1. I Want You– Common Common - Finding Forever - I Want You

Ok, this is less of a crush song and more of a “I’m going to stay in your life so you can never fall in love with anyone else again, whether you like it or not” song… but I can’t imagine anyone having a problem with Common wanting them that badly.

2. I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need To Get By– Mary J. Blige & Method Man Common - Finding Forever - I Want You

If you grew up in the ’90s, you know this was the jumpoff for every hood couple.

3. Trade It All (Part 2)– Fabolous, P.Diddy, Jagged Edge Fabolous - Street Dreams - Trade It All PT2 (feat. P. Diddy & Jagged Edge)

I mean, come on. They’d give up the good green, the watch, andthe pinky rink. ‘Nuff said.

4. Beautiful– Snoop Dogg, Pharrell, Uncle Charlie Wilson Pharrell, Snoop Dogg & Uncle Charlie Wilson - Paid Tha Cost to Be Da Bo$$ - Beautiful (Featuring Pharrell & Uncle Charlie Wilson)

Who doesn’t like being called beautiful? Besides, Snoop makes a “Clueless” reference.

5. Sunshine– Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, Babyface Babyface, Foxy Brown & Jay-Z - In My Lifetime Vol. 1 - (Always Be My) Sunshine

Only Babyface could make this wicked beat adorable.

6. What’s Your Fantasy?– Ludacris, Shawna Ludacris & Shawna - Back for the First Time - What's Your Fantasy

Sure, it’s raunchy… but who doesn’t wanna bang their crush?

7. Green Light– John Legend, Andre 3000 John Legend - Evolver - Green Light

Is this considered hip-hop? Probably not. But I’d grind to it anyway. Just sayin’.

8. Crush On You– Lil Kim Lil' Kim - Hard Core - Crush On You (Explicit Version)

Obviously.

9. Paris, Tokyo– Lupe Fiasco Lupe Fiasco - Lupe Fiasco's the Cool (Deluxe Version) - Paris, Tokyo

Any girl who’s dated a nomad can appreciate this song.

10. The Way You Move– Outkast OutKast - Speakerboxxx / The Love Below - The Way You Move

Because any guy who likes the way I move is a saint and should be cherished forever.

11. All My Love– Queen Pen, Eric Williams Eric "E" Williams, Eric Williams & Queen Pen - My Melody - All My Love

What up, elementary school?

12. You Got Me– The Roots, Erykah Badu The Roots & Erykah Badu - Things Fall Apart - You Got Me

A little deeper and sexier than the rest of the list, but a great jam nonetheless.

13. Hot Thing– Talib Kweli Talib Kweli - Hot Thing - EP - Hot Thing

Saving the best for last, this song is great for summer, sexin, dancing, drinking, bumping in the car, or bumping in the bedroom. Learn it, love it.
