While perusing The Frisky the other day, I read something that struck a chord. Amelia, the editor of the site, mentioned that she has a thing for guys who listen to hip-hop. And for some reason, I relate 100%. Clearly, I’m no Around The Way Girl… but there’s something about a guy who appreciates good hip-hop that makes me swoon. So, here’s a playlist my boo can play to let me know he’s feelin’ me. Word.
Ok, this is less of a crush song and more of a “I’m going to stay in your life so you can never fall in love with anyone else again, whether you like it or not” song… but I can’t imagine anyone having a problem with Common wanting them that badly.
2. I’ll Be There For You/You’re All I Need To Get By– Mary J. Blige & Method Man
If you grew up in the ’90s, you know this was the jumpoff for every hood couple.
3. Trade It All (Part 2)– Fabolous, P.Diddy, Jagged Edge
I mean, come on. They’d give up the good green, the watch, andthe pinky rink. ‘Nuff said.
4. Beautiful– Snoop Dogg, Pharrell, Uncle Charlie Wilson
Who doesn’t like being called beautiful? Besides, Snoop makes a “Clueless” reference.
5. Sunshine– Jay-Z, Foxy Brown, Babyface
Only Babyface could make this wicked beat adorable.
6. What’s Your Fantasy?– Ludacris, Shawna
Sure, it’s raunchy… but who doesn’t wanna bang their crush?
7. Green Light– John Legend, Andre 3000
Is this considered hip-hop? Probably not. But I’d grind to it anyway. Just sayin’.
Obviously.
Any girl who’s dated a nomad can appreciate this song.
10. The Way You Move– Outkast
Because any guy who likes the way I move is a saint and should be cherished forever.
11. All My Love– Queen Pen, Eric Williams
What up, elementary school?
12. You Got Me– The Roots, Erykah Badu
A little deeper and sexier than the rest of the list, but a great jam nonetheless.
Saving the best for last, this song is great for summer, sexin, dancing, drinking, bumping in the car, or bumping in the bedroom. Learn it, love it.
Ahhh giiirrrl! You KNOW I like them hip hop boyz too!
Check out DJ Frank http://www.frankdelourmixes.com/ – he loves hip-hop.
If you had to pick a Common song, i’d take “I Used to Love H.E.R.” or “The Light” over “I Want You”. Sure the “H.E.R.” he’s talking about in “I Used to Love H.E.R.” is hip-hop, and not an actual woman, but still…
Yeeeahhh… you’re right about The Light. I played it out, though.
oh wtf.
Why you hatin Bryce?
Yeah, why you hatin? Also, I think everyone should check out dj frank – Danielle’s right. Bangin jams.
steph, when did you date a nomad?
This is a great article. I’m new to blogging but still learning. Thanks for the great resource.
I love it.
