This Seattle startup has decided to invest in divorce.

It’s no secret that the rates of divorce in this country are at an all time high. With the advent of technology and social media, it has become much easier to meet people, and thus much easier to realize the person you are with isn’t right for you. Nearly 40-50 percent of marriages in the US end in divorce, so a Seattle startup has decided to capitalize off of it. Swanluv is a company that pays couples $10,000 for their dream wedding, but if they ever get divorced the money has to be repaid, with interest.

If you’re interested in betting on your marriage, you can apply to Swanluv, and they will analyze your relationship to see if you quality for the program. If you do, they offer you a loan for up to $10,000. As long as you stay together you never have to return the money, but if you divorce, you owe the lump sum with interest. Stronger relationships are assigned higher interest rates, so the longer a couple stays together, the more they will stand to lose if they split up.

Since the odds are basically 50% in Swanluv’s favor, I would say that this is actually a pretty genius idea. It also make’s couples ask if they should actually be getting married if they aren’t willing to gamble $10,000 on their relationship. So I guess that begs the question, ‘Would you be willing to bet on your own marriage?’
