Buzz cuts for women don’t have to be boring.
Pasadena based hair artist Janine Ker is basically a hair wizard. We’ve seen her work before all over Buzzfeed when she shows off her hair painting prowess. Her hot new thing? Too cool for school rainbow buzz cuts for women, and they’re just as magical as you’re picturing. These aren’t your ordinary dyed pixies. What makes Ker’s work particularly special is the shaved designs that show off the rainbow-bright dye.
Over email, Ker said that she started hair carving first, before getting more experimental with dyes. Hair carving is pretty much exactly what it sounds like — starting with a fresh buzz and shaving in lines to create a pattern. After the design is thoughtfully drawn out, then translated onto her client’s short ‘do, she can get going on the dyeing process.
Ker said that these jaw dropping styles don’t really last long. “The color and pattern as a whole usually holds it’s form for about a week. It is a transient art form, which to some people might be pointless, but to me it’s impermanence makes it all that more special.” We totally agree.
Even if it is just for a week you can serve up all the ’80s realness with this negative space triangle design. Then when it’s time for a change, buzz it all off and try a new spin on rainbow buzz cuts for women, maybe something a little softer this time.
You’ll probably remember her gorgeous floral hair painting skills that got a lot of buzz last festival season.
Her hair carving and dying skills can get floral too, don’t you worry. This bright design is one of our favorite buzz cuts for women, because it exists at the intersection of femme and rugged. Ker said that her clients usually just let her do her thing with their hair. “Most of the time, these particular clients all seem to express the same attitude, which is “I trust you, Janine.” This unlocks my true creativity. What more could I ask for?”
