First and foremost, I would like to say that I know I will run into opposition on this one. I expect it and accept that it is unavoidable. That being said, I enjoy this music..and if you are a little open-minded you might too. Yup, that dirty little word to New Yorkers..COUNTRY. It’s like it’s against the culture of a New Yorker to like country, and I do understand that..as someone who has lived in both the North and the South, it’s hard for city slickers to understand and enjoy the boot skootin’, honky tonk music based around life on a farm or small town living. All I can say is that it’s fun and there are some really great songs, whether they ring true to your life or not. Now, I’ve read the profiles on the good ole facebook and seen the “Music: Anything, BUT country.” I’ve been forced to use an iPod or satellite radio to enjoy country music here, considering one of the biggest cities in the world doesn’t have a single country radio station, not one. Well, consider this the start of my crusade.
Â
1. Boot Scootin’ Boogie by Brooks & Dunn. Just a fun song, by a legendary duo.
2. Different Kind of Fine by Zac Brown Band. Just because it’s a great song and since it hasn’t been released as a single not as many people have heard it, but its totally worth it.
3. The Dance by Garth Brooks. The quintessential sad country love song, if this doesn’t make you sad then you are heartless.
4. I Love This Bar by Toby Keith. Everyone’s got their favorite bar, with the characters to go with it.
5. I Told You So by Carrie Underwood. Possibly one of my favorite songs of all time.
6. Guys Like Me by Eric Church. These would be the type of guys I decided were a good idea when I started college.
7. I’m Still A Guy by Brad Paisley. If you have any kind of beef with metrosexuals, download this song immediately.
8. Keg in the Closet by Kenny Chesney. If you loved college, you will love this song..it’s totally reminiscent of every big school. Added bonus, it’s Kenny Chesney..and I love me some Kenny.
9. New Strings by Miranda Lambert. Lots of people that live in New York have escaped from some small town to try to make it big here, so I thought this was appropriate.
10. Here’s To You by Rascal Flatts. If you have never been to a country music concert, this song is it in a nutshell. It is Rascal Flatts’ ode to their fans, which I think is another great characteristic of this genre, their fans are hardcore and they can completely relate to their idols.
11. Just To See You Smile by Tim McGraw. Simply because it makes me happy.
