Natural Hair Dye Solutions We’re Loving

Written by Bryce

Did you know that  greys can start appearing as soon as your first crop of mature hair grows in at around 10 months old? It’s more likely that premature greys will start in your late 20’s, though, if you’re already genetically predisposed to Anderson Cooper’s signature affliction (Not sure about your genetics? Ask your parents when they first saw a strands of silver…). Chemical dyes can overwork, over process, and destroy the hair follicle with repeated use (nevermind the damage they might cause your skin and internal organs). So if you’re going to start coloring in your 20’s, here are a couple more natural options we’re totally loving.

1. Aubrey Organics Color Me Natural. It’s an all-natural plant-based permanent hair color line that contains no harmful synthetic chemicals, but brings out natural hair color in one easy step. The process nourishes hair with ayurvedic herbals that gently coat the hair without damaging the structure of the hair shaft as it covers gray and enhances natural hair color. Key ingredients include:

Indigofera tinctoria (Indigo) – This antiseptic and colorant has antidandruff properties and a soothing effect on the scalp.

Lawsonia inermis alba (Henna) – This ancient plant dye has a conditioning and smoothing effect on hair.

Emblica officinalis (Indian Gooseberry) – This mild detergent contains a rich source of vitamin C (20 times stronger than orange juice) and is purported to prevent hair loss and premature graying.

Eclipta alba  – This tonic and stimulant is purported to prevent dandruff and hair loss.

Acacia cathechu – This astringent and colorant has a cooling effect on the scalp.

2. Lush Caca. I know, it sounds more like a luxurious poop than a natural hair enhancer… but hey, it is what it is. This natural brick of henna is literally like a make-it-at-home-cement for your hair that allows you to go natural the old-fashioned way. Our mothers and grandmothers (and their grandmothers) used henna for centuries to turn up the vibrancy of their hair and gently cover greys. I particularly love this one because you can determine how long you leave it on your hair for the right color amplification. With organic ingredients and dry formula, it’s easy to travel with and great to feel safe with. Oh, and if you’re looking for a great exciting red or auburn color, this is totally the one to try.
